PAINTIQUE: Painted Antique Furniture
Moss green and peach country-style cabinet-top dresser; 1920s.
cabinet-top dresser
1920s

This magnificent piece is John's favorite (replacing his previous favorite, an ivory nightstand on wheels. Most likely dating from the 1920s, this country-style cabinet-top dresser is built like a tank, and features a highly unusual arrangement of drawers: two-over-three-over three long.

Cabinet-tops typically have two small glove-drawers on the top tier, and three to five long drawers beneath; this one has two large drawers on top, and extra row of three smaller drawers below that and above the long drawers.

The corners beside the second row of drawers are chamfered (also unusual), and the decorative lip marking the border between this row and the first long drawer runs across both sides as well as the front (another uncommon feature). Tall, wide, and deep, it weighs about the same as a tank—but how many times do you move a dresser?

The paint is a custom antique moss-green-and-peach, with highlights are of faded gold. The first long drawer is graced by a weathered image of two putti or cherubs doing...whatever it is these little darlings do.

Dimensions:  49 inches high x 38 inches wide x 20-1.4 inches deep.
